If a console would die without exclusives, that just proves nobody wanted that console.
I finally got around to making a nice-looking detailed post about why Artificial Exclusives are anticompetitive and anticonsumer. Too long for this:
Console exclusives are actually ANTIcompetitive. If you buy all the consoles to buy all the games, the consoles are by definition not competing anymore.
They discourage improvement of the platform and push new platform competitors (new consoles, video streaming services, etc) unfairly out of the market because they have to spend astronomical amounts of money just to compete due to the existing exclusives.
They cannot compete on better features or specs because they don't have any exclusives. Why buy a new console competitor if it only has multiplatforms and none of the exclusives? You're better off with a console that has exclusives AND those multiplatform games.
